Overview
The Flora-Bama is located on Perdido Key right on the Florida and Alabama border and is a 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2018 Top 10 Florida Beach Bar. The Flora-Bama is like no other bar or shall we say "bars".
The Flora-Bama is made up of many levels and a tent and each area seems to have its own bar and personality. There is apt to be a band playing in each bar. We counted 3 playing at the same time on our last visit.
There is a mixed crowd at this beach bar. During beach hours you will catch the beach going public in the lower level of the bar getting food and drink and dressed in bathing suits. Yet in the other bars, you will find people relaxing with a cold drink and enjoying the music and in street attire.
Climb the stairs of the new deck area. From inside this area you get a bird's eye view of the stage and band area. Maybe you will catch Elaine Petty playing her guitar and singing. She is fantastic. The crowd really gets into her raspy singing voice and people start dancing. Strung across the dance floor is a "clothesline" with bras hanging from it. This bar even has a balcony section and a clothesline strung from there to the band stand. This serves the purpose of giving tips to the band and making requests. So ingenious.
The Flora-Bama has live entertainment every day and sometimes several times a day. This Florida beach bar draws a crowd, and they are big enough to handle it. The Silver Moon across the street is also part of the Flora-Bama, and they bring in great bands too. You really need to look at The Flora-Bama web site band calendar to determine when your favorite band is playing. Bands seem to be playing almost constantly at this Florida beach bar.
There are events such as the Mullet Toss or the Crawfish Boil. Plan your trip accordingly. What is a Mullet Toss, you ask? People line up on the Alabama side of the road and see if they can toss a Mullet into Florida. Sounds like a good thing to do, if there's beer around. There are also corn hole competitions on the beach.
When done with the fun of the Mullet Toss you can enjoy a drink, some oysters and great Gulf of Mexico views and sunsets at the Flora-Bama. The Flora-Bama sits right on the beach. It's all good.
Come for the fun and views and be a part of history at one of the best Florida beach bars. This bar is not to be missed!!! You just can't describe this bar. You really do have to visit this Florida beach bar in person. You will love it! Keep up the good work, Flora-Bama!!! Florida Beach Bar loves your spirit!
Would you believe that Flora-Bama even has "Worship by the Water" services on Sunday mornings at 11:00 a.m.
